Softball is another very popular sport which the cruisers partake in each year. There is usually both a men's team and a lady's team and frequent games between or amongst them. The Regatta has purchased a good supply of bats, balls, and gloves so that all that is needed is the desire to play. The United States Army has a small presence in George Town and games between the cruisers and the servicemen stationed there are always a big hit. Keeping those well conditioned young men from loosing all of the Regatta softballs over the fence is a real challenge!
During Regatta, there is usually an evening set aside for a game between two ladies teams and a game between the cruisers and a team of local Bahamians. Les Dames, driver of George Town Taxi number 12, has for years sponsored the ladies game and provided nice "T" shirts for them. He also umpires the game which adds much excitement to an already exciting game. Food is often provided by the National Family Island Regatta, commentary provided by a cruiser with 'public speaking talent', and a fun evening at the ballpark is enjoyed by all.
