Scavenger Hunt
Perhaps one of the most fun events during regatta is the scavenger hunt. Teams of six cruisers (it is often an advantage having a youth member on the team) are given a list of some forty odd items that they must collect within a two hour time limit. The team judged to have collected the most items wins, in the event of a tie, the fastest team wins.
The items usually include a number of straightforward ones such as a live hermit crab, a cold Kalik beer, or a signature of a local resident. Many items will challenge the intellectual talent of the team. One year, the item was “the largest anchor delivered to the monument” and a team brought up the steep hill a 110 pound Bruce anchor only to find out the winning team just left after bringing up a 125 foot long parachute anchor that only weighed some 25 pounds.
In this case, ‘largest’ meant physical size and not weight. Nearly always there will be an item such as ‘six fresh baked brownies’ which will of course be devoured by the judges to test the freshness. While some pictures are shown below, they cannot depict the fun involved in the scavenger hunt, you must go to George Town and participate to truly appreciate the fun in this event.
