Volleyball is one of the most popular activities for all cruisers in George Town. Over the years, the cruisers have built five quality beach volleyball courts on Volleyball Beach with good nets and out of bounds lines. The volleyball is divided into two major components, Regulation Volleyball and ‘Fun’ Volleyball.

Regulation Volleyball plays the games by official beach volleyball rules. The games usually have six players on a side, but games of two on two, three on three, and four on four are also very popular among the better players.

Fun Volleyball has relaxed and/or changed some of the rules to promote games that better suit the less experienced players. In Fun Volleyball, a team may hit the ball as many times as necessary rather than the three shot limit in regulation. A player may hit the ball almost any way possible, though obvious ‘carrys’ or ‘lifts’ are not allowed. The ball may also be served from anywhere on the court and spiking is forbidden. The games usually are played with nine players on each side.

Highslide JSTo promote more quality games, volleyball clinics have been offered where a more experienced player will coach groups of beginners (and intermediates) in the rules of the game and proper ways to hit the ball. These clinics have been quite successful and the quality of the games has been much improved.

During regatta, there is both a Fun Volleyball tournament and a Regulation Volleyball tournament. The teams are chozen at random and the competition is often stiff. While it is great to participate in the tournament, it is also an outstanding event for spectators.
